Christmas lifetime movie lessons...

After not one but two Christmas lifetime movies today... I learned the following things...

1. Quit your job before you get married. If you don't your boss will want you to go away for a business trip right before your wedding and you will inevitably encounter hurricane type storms where your flight home will get cancelled, then you will miss the next three flights due to unfortunate circumstances, have to ride in a car with someone named Buck Sr., ride on a Harley with Big Daddy, and get stuck in Cheyenne Wyoming where a helicopter will have to pick you up to bring you home. You will ultimately miss your wedding by minutes and be forced to get married with a lit up snowman as your backdrop and have your reception in a place entitled Buffalo Bar.

2. If you ever leave someone at the altar, your next marriage will end in failure, and you will eventually end up marrying the person you left in the first place.

3. If you hear rustling in your basement, it is probably a small child who has been hiding out down there for an unknown amount of time. You will want to keep him as your own but the man you left at the altar will send him away to spite you, but will eventually fight for the kid to return to you.

4. Wearing your wedding shoes every day up until the day of your wedding, does not in fact bring good luck. They will end up black and you will miss your wedding.

5. If you are ice skating and a guy you have never met is being a creep and taking pictures of you, you will end up marrying him.

More to come... as I have four more lifetime movies recorded...

One day only...

Today I took my sisters family pics... no I am not a photographer. Here is how my point and shoot session went this morning.... Sorry if by posting these pics I spoiled your big Christmas card debut Lindsay, but really no one who gets your cards reads my blog, at least that I know of.

Please do not call me for any of your photography needs (unless your last name is thompson, I would take some for you too, however will not be in the least bit offended if you go with a professional). Just a fun way to spend a Sunday morning.

Let the Christmas music begin...

This has always been one of my favorite quotes. I love it because it makes me think of the gospel and how it brings light into our lives even through the hardest of times. Most of all it gives me hope, and something to hold on to. Lexie I love you and I know the Lord is watching over you and your sweet family during this dark night, and He will bring light to your life through his love and gospel of peace.

Nate: Are you married yet aunt sam?
Sam: Nope, not yet
Lindsay: We need to find her a nice boy to marry
Nate: Like Travis? (age seven), or jake? (age four)

I guess those are my options these days

Some days you need to be reminded...

“You are well acquainted with God our Heavenly Father, … for there is not a soul of you but what has lived in his house and dwelt with him year after year [in the premortal existence]; and yet you are [now on this earth] seeking to become acquainted with him, when the fact is, you have merely forgotten what you did know.” - Brigham Young

Sophie B. Hawkins - Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover

I love this song. Always have. Not sure why. But it sure is fun to sing to people.

This is my sister and she recently turned 30. I think this deserves a shout out on my blog. I love her for many reasons but here are just a few (in no particular order)...
1. She is indecisive. While it drives me nuts sometimes it makes her who she is. It also means that I talk to her a lot because sometimes she just needs help making up her mind... and i'm glad she asks for my input.
2. She punched me in the face once... but i also through a piece of cardboard at her arm and it literally cut her and got stuck in her arm. I'm glad we still bring these things up to each other.
3. She loves to decorate and try new things... which I appreciate cause she usually ends up inspiring me with new ideas and new projects to tackle.
4. She is a great mom and will have to help me be a mom... that I'm sure of. And she has cute kids.
5. She loves fountain drinks as much as me.
6. She loves junk food as much as me.
7. She loves laying on a raft in the pool more than me.
8. She lends me her husband to fix my house too even when I'm sure there is something she needed done at hers.
9. When I'm crabby and annoying she calls me out on it
10. Really I just think she's great.

Love you sissy pants

I've come to the conclusion that I own too much stuff. By the end of the year I hope to have de-junked my life and made things much simpler. Certain things I'm just not sure what to do with though. I own a TON of movies. I really like most of these movies. But I haven't watched one of them in probably a year or so. Between netflix and my DVR... I just don't ever have the urge to pop in a movie anymore. Do you keep them? Donate them? I want everything in my home to have a home.... but how do you get around having drawers of random junk? I'm just not sure how everything in my house will ever have an actual home. My goal for the rest of the year is to simplify. I need you guys to hold me to it. First stop. My room.

I am in love with this shower cream And I never would have bought it if Amander weren't in my life. So thank you Mander. And if you in the least bit like coconut... you should try this. I'm okay with smelling like Hawaii.

I think this picture sums up the fun we had. How could you not have fun with sisters and the best nieces and nephews? Not to mention the place is full of magic and frozen bananas

Thursday I went to Disneyland. I will post pictures when they are available for stealing off of my sisters blog... but my favorite conversation of the day went a little something like this...

Scene: Sam, Lindsay, Abbie and Nate in line for thunder mountain

Abbie: I don't feel so good about this. Do they have barf bags on this ride?
Sam: There will be no barfing on this ride cause it will get all over you and all over me and if that happens we are going home.
Nate: Aunt Sam... your a nurse. You clean up barf all day.

And I just had to laugh at that.

"Just put your paws up... cause you were born this way baby."
"Don't be a drag just be a queen"

How can you not love these lyrics.

I am shamefully in love with the gaga song.

Just in case you were having trouble thinking of something to get me for my birthday in two months... I was thinking today this unicorn pillow pet would be on my wish list.

This weekend I decided to boot up my college computer that hasn't been turned on in well over two years with the purpose of getting my music off it and throwing it in the trash. These are the things I learned/remember about my itunes circa 2005.

1. I used to lay on my couch in the fernwood with josh groban and the book of love on repeat. Those were dark days.
2. I watched entirely too much dawsons creek in college. Hence why I have all the music downloaded.
3. The OC introduced me to a whole new variety of sleepy music
4. Kelly Clarkson was and is still awesome. I think Beautiful disaster is at the top of my most played list. Well done Kelly.
5. Some awesome mix cd's were made in college. Thank you Lexie for many a road trip cd. And really who can forget "the cd" from the avenues.
6. Clearly I didn't care about foul language in college when it came to music
7. typing the lyrics to your roommate while listening to songs together is awesome.
8. John Denver rocked my world.
9. "I'm not a girl... not yet a woman..." need I say more.

More realizations to come...

Amanda and I for as long as I can remember have made a pact to watch this....

every year. I know your thinking... "really? every year?" Yes really. Every year. And I love it. This years viewing brought about something entirely new. A google session while the ship is sinking (our least favorite part) of fact and fiction that the movie portrays. Heres a little bit about what we discovered.

1. There was a J Dawson aboard the ship
2. James Cameron did the sketch of Kate Winslet
3. There were no Picasso paintings on the Titanic as shown in the movie
4. If you have to go into freezing water, its better to remain still. You lose body heat faster if you try to swim.
5. The movie was filmed in Baja so that water was 80 degrees. Kind of ruins the last scene for me
6. Lake Wissota where Jack went ice fishing in Wisconsin is a man made lake that wasn't made until after the Titanic sunk.
7. Apparently there are all kind of bloopers you can find if you put certain scenes into slow motion. Maybe next time Mander.

Really the list is like a hundred fold of the many facts and fiction I learned about Titanic this weekend. And this is one of the many reasons why I love Amanda

My best cookie creation ever looks a little something like this...

Thank you Christen for hosting an anti-valentines day cookie party that allowed me to be inspired.

While being a nurse is much more involved than I ever imagined... the one thing I will never be able to complain about is the schedule. Nothing like working monday, having tuesday off to lay around. working wednesday and thursday followed by a four day weekend. Thank you nursing for being a tolerable job schedule... considering my ideal would be not to have one at all.

Why 2010 Rocked my World....

1. I made it through nursing school. And I rocked it. And I'm humble about it.

2. I was lucky enough to get to spend day in and day out of the last year with some great people at school. Without them life would have been a little more painful.

3. I spent some time in the country....

Made a trip to Europe to visit Kell Bell

Hit up Hawaii

4. Had two amazing girls weekends.... First one with Jenners, Kell Bell and Bri. Second with Amander, Maggot, Mar-y, Mags, and Lexie. Love all of you ladies.

5. Passed my NCLEX with flying colors

6. Got a freaking job

7. Have been lucky enough to spend some time with family. I have amazing parents, two wonderful sisters, and the best nieces and nephews. I love being Aunt Sam.

8. I became a self taught felt playhouse maker. I dont have pictures of them sadly enough. Maybe my sisters will be kind enough and take some pics to send to me.

9. I scraped by on the 31st and managed to repaint my family room before the end of the year. I LOVE it. Pics to come.

10. I joined the world of flat screen TV's. And its a good place to be.

Somehow with all the madness of nursing school and depression of being unemployed for a while... this still turned out to be one of the best years ever. Thank you 2010 for being so kind to me. 2011... you have a lot to live up to.
